Last week some of our Neville Funerals team members were invited to attend Garden House Hospice’s weekly Wellbeing hub. Our Pre-Need Manager Löis picks up the story:

“We had been sensibly advised to arrive in cool, comfortable clothes as we would be taking part in a seated exercise group, and to be honest, we weren’t sure what to expect. So on this hot July day, we met in the hospice reception where we were warmly welcomed by Fundraising Manger Kuljit, in her workout clothes. Kuljit explained that the Wellbeing Hubs are popular sessions, supported by volunteers “Compassionate Neighbours” who in partnership with the hospice, provide inclusive social activities for locals to take part in a couple of hours of activities, a cup of tea and a chat. The outcome they aim for, is improved mental and physical health for older people, who may have experienced illness or loss of confidence, helping to extend their enjoyable and active lives.
“We then met Harry, a young man oozing with friendliness and dad jokes that could even challenge our Bedford Branch Manger Karl’s! Harry takes multiple exercise groups each week and explained that he especially likes the session at Garden House Hospice as it’s the most upbeat and interactive. Harry then went on to entertain about 40 of us with gentle seated exercises, upbeat music, and some silly jokes, with enthusiasm, patience, and encouragement. We were put through our paces for 55 minutes and then became aware that the regulars were keenly anticipating the finale, where we all invited to sway in our seats in time to “Sweet Caroline”. As the session came to an end and after working up a thirst, the group divided into smaller clusters who sat enjoying a good chat, sharing photos and a well-earned cup of tea and biscuits. We really enjoyed taking part and hope that we can support another session sometime in the future.”
