This Family Business Week, we’re reflecting on what 150 years of “family business” really means for Neville Trust.

Founded in 1875 by brothers Thomas and Edward Neville, our story began in Luton with builders, joiners and coffin makers – and has grown into a fifth-generation, family-run group of companies working across construction, joinery and funerals.

Today, we’re proud that both the 5th and 6th generations of the Neville family work alongside colleagues who’ve been with us long enough to see four generations of the family at the helm. Long service isn’t a slogan here – it’s part of daily life. Recent Long Service Awards have recognised hundreds of years of service across Neville Funerals, Neville Special Projects and Neville Joinery, with some colleagues alone contributing 40 years each.

“When I first started working at Neville’s in 1983 it was within the construction side of the business and my role was Assistant Secretary to the Directors… I supported the secretary to both Michael and Peter Henman and their father Bernard Henman.”

Through our Timeless Voices archive and 150th anniversary celebrations, we’ve been capturing the stories of apprentices, long-standing team members, former directors and new starters – a living history of a business that has always been about its people.

Family is ingrained in our culture – not just in our ownership, but in the way we look after one another, invest in careers, and support the communities we’ve served since 1875. And while our history keeps us grounded, our focus is firmly on the future.

As put by one of our Construction Directors: “I'm part of the family.”

Here’s to the families, colleagues and communities who have shaped Neville Trust – past, present and future.
