From Numbers to Nurturing: Neville Funerals Driver Bearer Shares Her Journey to a Career with Her Purpose

A career change can often mean stepping into the unknown, but for one Neville Funerals Driver Bearer, swapping a career in HR and finance for supporting families during some of their most difficult moments has brought a renewed sense of purpose.

After working across HR, finance and call centres, Sophie knew she wanted a role where she could make a meaningful difference to others. Now, as a Driver Bearer at Neville Funerals, she has found just that – and she genuinely looks forward to getting up and going to work again.

Having studied nursing during the early stages of her career, Sophie had always felt drawn to a role centred around caring for others. It was her father, who also works as a Driver Bearer, who suggested that supporting people through end-of-life care could be the right fit for her.

“After working from home for various call centres, home wasn’t home anymore, and I struggled to switch off,” Sophie explains. “I wanted to have more of a sense of purpose and meaning, and working in the funeral industry allows me to feel like I am making a difference.”

The role of a Driver Bearer goes far beyond what many may see on the day of a funeral. From caring for the deceased with dignity and attention to detail, to supporting families during an incredibly difficult time, the role requires compassion, professionalism and composure throughout.

For Sophie, there are similarities to what first drew her towards nursing: the opportunity to care for others and provide reassurance when it is needed most. Driver Bearers are often present during some of the most difficult moments in a family’s life, quietly providing care and support behind the scenes.

Since joining Neville Funerals, Sophie has been surrounded by a supportive team and has found a career that gives her the sense of purpose she had been looking for.

We look forward to seeing Sophie continue to develop in her role and sharing more about her journey with Neville Funerals.
